Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Tastier collects, why we use it, who processes it, and the choices available to you.

Effective September 13, 2026

Information we collect

We collect account and profile details such as your login identifier, email address when supplied by your login provider, username, display name, biography, profile photo, and privacy preferences. We also process content you choose to submit, including posts and restaurant visits, dish names, ratings, notes, comments, lists, feature suggestions, reports, and images. A bug report also includes the current app screen, app and build versions, iOS version, and device model so we can investigate the issue.

With permission, Tastier uses your approximate or precise location while you use the app to find nearby restaurants. After sign-in, Tastier requests permission for notification alerts, sounds, and badges if notification permission has not been decided or was previously provisional. When notification delivery is allowed, we store an Apple-issued device token associated with your account. You can turn activity notifications off in Tastier Settings and control banners, sounds, lock-screen visibility, and previews in iOS Settings. When you enable the optional analytics and diagnostics setting, we collect product-interaction events and app crash and performance diagnostics linked to your account.

Independently of that setting, Tastier keeps first-party records of account activity in our own database: when your account was created and which invitation it used, when the app is open, when you form friendships, post, comment, react, or save, and the app version in use. Our server derives product measurements from these records automatically—for example whether a new member returned the day after joining, formed friendships, or made a first post—and sends a minimized reporting copy to PostHog, our analytics processor. That copy contains account identifiers, your account role and cohort labels, timestamps, statuses, and counts. It never contains your e-mail address, username, posts, photos, comments, messages, location, or device data. This server-side measurement is automatic and is not controlled by the optional analytics and diagnostics setting, which governs only the analytics and diagnostics software running inside the app. Tastier's own database remains the source of truth; the PostHog copy is used for reporting only.

How we use information

We use information to provide accounts, social features, restaurant discovery, posting, synchronization, safety moderation, support, fraud prevention, first-party measurement of whether Tastier works for new members, and operational monitoring of our API. With optional analytics and diagnostics consent, we also use app interaction and diagnostic data to understand product usage and investigate app failures.

Service providers and third-party moderation

Supabase provides authentication, database, and media-storage infrastructure; Fly.io hosts our API; Apple and Google provide optional sign-in services. When you explicitly consent at the point a safety check is first needed, content you submit—including profile details, posts, comments, lists, feature suggestions, and images—may be sent to OpenAI, a third-party moderation provider, to detect content that violates our Community Standards.

We require every service provider that receives Tastier user data to provide the same or equal protection described in this policy and required by applicable platform rules.

PostHog processes the automatic server-side measurement copy described above. If you enable the optional analytics and diagnostics setting, PostHog additionally processes linked product-interaction data from the app and Sentry processes linked app crash and performance diagnostics. Separately, when server monitoring is enabled, Sentry processes API errors and performance telemetry, which can include your account identifier. This server monitoring operates independently of the optional app analytics and diagnostics setting. Reports you submit may be processed in our restricted Atlassian Jira safety queue, including the report details and account or content identifiers needed to investigate and respond. We do not use these services for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.

Your choices

To make the social experience useful from the first launch, Tastier connects new members with accounts in our founding community. You can remove or block any of these accounts at any time. New profiles begin discoverable to friends of friends, and you can switch to friends-only from the globe or lock control on your profile. You can disable activity notifications in Tastier Settings, disable optional app usage analytics and diagnostics in Settings → Privacy & Data, and change notification previews, camera, and location permissions in iOS Settings. You can also block or remove friends and delete your account from Tastier Settings. Account deletion removes your profile and associated posts, photos, comments, bookmarks, friendships, device notification tokens, and notifications from active systems, subject to limited security, legal, and backup retention. In-app account deletion does not automatically erase previously collected analytics, diagnostic, or safety-report records held by PostHog, Sentry, or Jira, or copies in provider backups. Contact us for deletion assistance concerning those records.

OpenAI processing occurs only when you choose to submit content that requires a safety check. Tastier does not offer unmoderated posting. If you withdraw permission for future moderation, do not submit additional content; you may delete your account directly in Tastier Settings or contact engineering@tastierapp.com for deletion assistance.

Retention and security

We retain account content while your account is active and retain safety, support, and diagnostic records only as reasonably necessary for those purposes. We use access controls, private storage, encrypted transport, and least-privilege service credentials, but no system can guarantee absolute security.

Children

Tastier is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and delete it where appropriate.

Changes and requests

We may update this policy as Tastier changes. For privacy questions, access requests, or deletion assistance, contact us using the address below.
